Where Was He Born?
Back in 1992, Chief Deji and Mrs Vero Adeleke gave birth to the “Dami Duro” singer. David Adedeji Adeleke was born in Atlanta, Georgia. When he was young, he moved to Lagos with his parents, and they enrolled him into the British International School situated in Lagos. He then went on to Oakwood University to study Business Administration, but he had to quit because his school performance wasn’t good.
Davido is related to several influential people such as Isiaka Adeleke, a governor and a senator before he passed away in 2017, and Ademola Adeleke, who was a senator and contested for the position of the Osun State governor.
How Did His Music Career Start?
The DMW owner’s musical journey is truly an inspiration to all. Although his academic pursuit at Oakwood wasn’t very fruitful, that was where he developed his passion for music. After he quit studying at Oakwood, he went to the UK in hopes of developing his vocals. He learnt how to play musical instruments, and make beats.
When he returned to Nigeria, his father influenced his decision to attend Babcock University, where he got a music degree. Davido’s debut album called “Omo Baba Olowo” was released nine years ago. His single “Dami Duro” highlighted his musical journey, as well as his father’s unwillingness to see him pursue a musical career. This same single made him very popular, providing him with the boost he needed to become one of the best Afro-pop singers to date.
How Davido’s Career Is Thriving
Davido has released multiple hits such as Gobe, Skelewu, Owo Ni Koko, Blow my mind, Assurance, and many others. They have won him numerous nominations and awards as a testimony to his musical prowess.
Taking you back a few years, he released multiple singles in 2013, which included Gobe. These singles were so successful, gaining a lot of national and international recognition. He remained busy promoting those songs till 2015, releasing music videos for them.
The following year, he announced that he had signed a record deal with Sony Music. In that same year, he founded DMW, one of Africa’s leading record labels. He then went on to sign an agreement with Sony’s RCA Records and released a 5-track EP “Son Of Mercy.”
In late 2019, Davido released his second studio album “A Good Time.” In that same year, he was also announced to be one of the Top 100 influential Africans by New African magazine. Most recently, Davido released his third album “A Better Time last year.” He has signed superstars such as Mayorkun, Dremo, and Peruzzi to his record label.
Davido has gotten so many music awards in such a short amount of time. They include a BET award, 2 MTV Africa Music Awards, 5 The Headies Awards, 7 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and so on.
Davido’s Personal Life
Virtually everyone knows how much love Davido has for his fiancé Chioma. He is engaged to the skilled Chef, and has a child with her named Ifeanyi. He also has two children with his baby mamas Sophia Momodu and Amanda, called Imade and Hailey respectively. He is estimated to be worth $14 million.
