Early Years of Mayorkun
Mayorkun, whose real name is Mayowa Emmanuel Adewale, was born to Toyin and Sunday Adewale on the 23rd of March 1994. As the first child of three, Mayorkun has two siblings, Morenikejimi Adesewa Ajokemi and Ayobami Sunday Adewale.

Before Mayorkun dived into music full time, he had tried his hands on the banking industry. Life as a banker was not the best for him, as he reported to be unsatisfied with the Job and its pay. During this phase, he decided to switch careers to music. Considering he could not afford the reasonable cost of production, he recorded songs with free online beats and created covers for popular Nigerian songs. While at it, he recorded a Video cover to one of Davido’s hit songs in 2015. Davido noticed him, and he got his big break.
Following that, Mayorkun resigned from his Banking Job, signed a record deal, and proved that he could do more than play the piano.
On April 7 2016, he released his first song, Eleko, a hit. Within the first ten days after release, this song raked over a million views making it #1.

On the release date, Mayorkun took to IG, saying, “Became the Mayor of Lagos in 2017, 4 years later the Mayor is Back in Office for another tenure.
Although the “Mayor of Lagos” album was
released under DMW, “Back in Office” was not. At the album launch party, Davido and Mayorkun announced that Mayorkun was no longer part of DMW. Mayorkun is now under a record deal with Sony Music West Africa, and he released the “Back in Office” album under this deal.
