The Queen of Katwe is a movie that depicts the life of Phiona Mutesi, a young girl who lived in the slum of Katwe in Uganda. Phiona would later meet Robert Katende, who plays football and teaches children how to play chess. Phiona became very interested in chess, which she was very good at due to her rare thinking capabilities and would become the country best chess player and a Master after her performances at World Chess Olympiads at a young age.
As her fame and recognition grew, Phiona now has grown passed the girl who played chess for a cup of porridge and must learn her how to handle the stress and find her real identity as she seeks to use chess as a means to provide for her single mother and family.
The movie is a real inspiration to thousands of girls out there who find opportunity hard to find. You can find a short documentary here.
