The Advancements of VR and AR and the effects on Mobile Industry

AR & VR IN 2016

AR & VR saw great improvements in 2016 and 2017 is looking interesting.

It’s been over a decade since the smartphone went from a novelty to a necessity. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine how we could live without the plethora of apps that we are constantly using throughout the day. Despite all the new phone models coming out every couple of months and new apps being developed, it seemed like there was nothing really new in mobile. But that all began to change over the past year as two exciting new mobile technologies became a reality. We’re talking about virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR).

These two are seen as game changers within the mobile industry and we can expect some huge new developments in 2017 and beyond.

Virtual reality VR

With a VR headset that connects to your phone, gamers can now enter into an alternate dimension and experience their game like never before. Online casino players have enjoyed the option to play many table games such as online blackjack on their mobile devices, but the experience can be much more realistic with VR. You can, virtually, walk up to the table and signal the dealer by tapping on the table to deal you another card. At the Craps table, instead of just clicking a button, you can actually “throw” dice.

AR technology superimposes digital enhancements and images over real life objects, thus merging the two. Probably the most well-known application AR is Pokémon Go, where players have to walk around and try and capture Pokémon characters. If a player is looking at the screen, it will seem as if the Pokémon are actually running around the real world.

These examples are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what kind of games and apps that these technologies capable of. Mobile VR and AR technology are still in their infancy but developers and programmers are hard at work creating new and innovative ways that smartphones can enhance our daily life.
