PS5: Design
Over the years, PlayStation always found its way around creating consoles that will deliver top-notch graphics and performance without going overboard in terms of design but the PS5 is a slight deviation from the minimal form factor.
The PS5 stands at 15.4 inches tall which gives it the medal of the biggest home console ever made although the digital edition of the PS5 is slightly smaller due to the exception of a disc drive that doesn’t significantly reduce its size.
If you are wondering how that’s possible considering how big the Xbox’s Next-Gen the am here to tell you that the Xbox Series X stands at 11.8 inches tall despite its bulker look.
In terms of design, the PS5 is as futuristic as a console can get with blue neon lights that run through the dark hallowed core of the console. The shiny finish on this part of the console makes it a fingerprint magnet so minimal touch is advised.
Two parts of white, hard-plastic wrap up the look of the console but upon close examination, this extended frame has microscopic designs of the signature PlayStation controller icons(X, triangle, square and circle) as well as the Sony which gives it a not-so-smooth textured finish.
Behind the console towards the bottom, you have the power cable port, Ethernet port, one dedicated HDMI port and two USB ports while in front, a USB Type-C port and another USB port.
The futuristic design extends to the new PS5 DualSense controller. The design although very familiar to that of the PS4’s DualShock controller there still some stand out differences like;
- Textured Grip: Similar to the design on the body of the console but more prominent the DualSense controller offers a more textured grip compared to the smooth feel of the DualShock controllers
- Less Visible Controller Lights: The triangular indicator light has been moved from the top of the controller to tiny lines around the trackpad making it less visible.
- Adaptive Triggers: Compared to the haptic feedback found on the PS4 controller, these triggers promises more interaction and feel when playing games.
Other differences are a cut-out Playstation logo, bigger in size, a USB-C port and a create button to replace the share button.
PS5: Hardware
This is where the PS5 justifies its size. In terms of performance, the PS5 is the gift that gives on giving basically with an eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU clocked at 3.5GHz paired with a custom AMD RDNA 2-based GPU and Ray Tracing the PS5 is able to churn out graphics, unlike any other console before it.
With such a high-performing CPU, GPU and the advanced light mimicking technology of ray tracing acceleration the way light interacts with its surrounding can be manipulated across different gameplay scenarios to give you the best possible user experience.
Tailored with the 8K capability of the PS5, refresh rate of 120Hz and 3D audio thanks to the Tempest Engine gameplay never felt smoother and so immersive. Similar to the Xbox Series one X and One S the PS5 supports 4K Blu-ray discs, game streaming and digital download. The digital version of the PS5 on the other hand will not come with a disc drive.
The console’s biggest marketing showcase is its new 825GB SSD that guarantees 10x times faster loading speeds in comparison to the PS4. This allows games load quicker as well as allowing bigger maps and quicker scene updates and transistions.
At a speed of 5.5GB/s delivered from the 5.5GB/s games will be run from the SSD directly not from the RAM which means no more data piling up in the RAM and this SSD enables you to play PS4 games directly from an external hard drive.
Jump in and out of games with the new multiple game suspension feature. With the aid of the superfast SSD, you can resume already loaded games without it loading from the startIn addition, the PS5 will support HDR10+ which means you should expect depth in detail and colours in gameplay with more light and dark scenes like Spiderman Miles Morales and Batman
Expect a whole new experience when getting the PS5 with a brand new user interface said to be 100x faster than that of the PS4 thanks to a new visual language that increases response speed and performance.
PS5: Accessories
What’s a Sony console without its trusty accessories to commemorate the user experience? This time there are a few new additions to the family. One of them is a Charging Station for charging both revamped DualSense controllers simultaneously, the new Pulse 3D Wireless Headset, an HD camera and a Media Remote. It also features a stand to help the console lay horizontally.
PS5: Price In Nigeria
