Users have reported difficulties in accessing Pokémon Go on Saturday evening.
A hacking group called PoddleCorp has claimed responsibility on twitter for taking down the Pokémon Go servers using a DDOS attack.

DDoS is short for Distributed Denial of Service. DDoS is a type of DOS attack where multiple compromised systems, which are often infected with a Trojan, are used to target a single system causing a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. – webopedia

Nintendo-Niantic later confirmed today, July 16, that the servers for the game that’s taking the world by storm were indeed down. Update 12:51 pm EST: Gamer community group Pokemon Go News reported a few hours later that Nintendo’s servers were up and running, though service might be sluggish for some users.
SERVER UPDATE: It appears the #PokemonGO servers are back online. Service and login time may be slow for some users.
