Grab your tissue paper, Game of Thrones fans, because you only have two more seasons left in Westeros.
At HBO’s Television Critics Association panel today Programming president Casey Bloys confirmed that season eight of Game of Thrones will indeed be its last.
“Yes. They have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do,” Bloys told EW in regards to showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’s end-game. “Believe me, as the new [programming executive] coming in, if I could get them to do more, I would take 10 more seasons. But we take their lead on what they think they can do the best version of the show.”
The number of episodes for season eight has yet to finalized. Season seven, meanwhile, will debut in the summer of 2017 and be seven episodes long,shorter than the standard ten-episode length. Winter is really here.
