The popular political drama TV series, produced by Sutherland as US President Thomas Kirkman, was cancelled by ABC in May earlier this year following its second season but has now been revived by Netflix and renewed for a 10-episode third season.
The third season would be owned by Netflix and any connection of ABC removed. The show would be released in 2019.
Bela Bajaria, Netflix VP Content, said: ‘Timely and gripping, Designated Survivor has quickened the pulses of our Netflix members outside the US and Canada in its first two seasons. ‘The international audience for the show drove our interest to bring the show to the world as a Netflix original for its third season and we are excited to bring the first two seasons to our US and Canadian members as well.’
Netflix recently resurrected Lucifer after Fox cancelled the show following its third season.
