Android is packed with, a great deal of secret features.
Android has been the most widely used mobile OS in the 21st century and it can be used for lots of things, many which still remain unknown to a good number of users. These secret features can help us to customize our experience and use our devices efficiently.
1) Developer Mode:
Have you seen your friends phone and noticed the Developer option that is not available on your device? By default, the Developer Mode is disabled.
To Enable? Navigate to Settings > About and tap the Build number option seven times. You will then be prompted with a little message saying “Congratulations, you are now a developer”. – and NO! don’t ask, this doesn’t certify you as a developer, LOL!
2) Access Your File Directory in Google Chrome.
OH MY! You don’t believe it right? Better do, because it works. You can navigate and explore your SD card data via Google Chrome for Android.
Did you ask how?- Yes, I can read your mind.
- Now, Find Google Chrome browser on your Android Smartphone and Open it.
- then type file:///sdcard/ in the URL and search.
- Abracadabra!!!!
With this great trick you can access your SD card via the chrome browser on Android, ain’t that cool? This feature saves you a great deal of time when you need to access your file explorer when using your browser. i.e you don’t need to leave your browser to do that.
3) Limiting Your Data Usage.
This is one of my favorites after the cost of data almost doubled in my home country- NG. It helps to monitor and control the way you use your data on your smartphone. Well, arguably it is the most common feature on this list but not everyone knows or use it. You can even set the maximum data you want to use before a specified date.
How?
Open Setting > Data Usage > Set Mobile Data Limit, and you will be able to configure the data limit.
4) Use Google Maps, Offline.
Yes! Yes! That is also possible. For those of you who loves to navigate around the city using Google Map, now you can do so without having an internet connection on your smartphone.
Now you can save Google Maps for offline.
How?
- Open Google Maps app
- Select Menu > ‘Offline areas‘ > Add.
Set your map position and select save. Afterward, you can access your offline map file from Your Places section.
5)Give autocorrect, a sack letter asap!
Autocorrect is a software feature that is usually bundled in keyboards on Android and sometimes it can be frustrating when it decides to automatically replace a word in your chat. Don’t get me wrong, autocorrect are fantastic features when used to correct typos, capitalization errors, and misspelled words(Dictionary words).
But in a scenario where slangs and names not valid in a dictionary are used often, it becomes a burden.
To disable autocorrect. Go to Settings>> Language and Input, Open Android Keyboard settings and Turn Off Auto Correction Feature.
6) Why need a TV remote, when you have an Android device?
Control your TV and other similar devices that use a remote control, from your android mobile. There are many apps on Google Play store that can do this, a good example is IR Universal Remote Android app.
7)Reduce Battery Consumption Using Animation Effects.
Saving battery usage is very important in developing countries that lack constant power supply. You can reduce the power your Android phone uses by using this awesome feature in developer mode.
Pls, note: This feature can only be done after you have completed the process of Feature 1(Developer Mode) on this list.
- First Click Settings -> Developer Options.
- Scroll down and there look for Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale.
- Now adjust the option, the best is to select the 0.5x in all the above options.
